well I just had a read about the first Figment comic series and wow just wow I can't believe that Disney allowed this ingenius comic to exist heck I can't even believed that they haven't forgot about our beloved purple dragon and...
.....oh right I meant YOUR beloved purple dragon, yeah because I didn't really experience the original ride all I only have is research
moving right along
I found that the story truly holds up all together the writing is good, I mean wow the introduction to the characters to the development of what they will become it's just nicely done, the drawing is good even though it really kinda stick to the Marvel style (kinda bothers me a tiny little bit)
not maybe I have a bit of negativ points to remark, but don't worry the greatness of the comic just washed them away a little, it's really the bottom of nitpicking
so here I go my first problem was the all theme sticking to the science matter even though there is fantasy elements, argh really it's like 88% of science fiction and just 12% of fantasy like the Dreamfinder starting of as an ingeneer scientist kinda bothered me a little from an original ride I believed him to be more like a philosopher than a scientist but yet again from that same ride the Dreamfinder seemed a little bit in his element while telling us about science, he was like a fish in a water, sorry I had to say it like that, so yeah it bothered me a little but then I remembered that the ride was tied to Epcot so the comic was loyal enough to follow that direction
now my second problem is Dreamfinder's relation with the nightmare nation: in the comic it's seems that the nightmare nation is the main ennemy of the Dreamfinder and Figment, and wherever they go (yes I'm kinda tying the Figment 2 comic series too here) they have to fight off the nightmare nation and for me.....that's not what a dreamfinder would do
RandomAmericanDisneyFan "hey don't tell us what a dreamfinder would or wouldn't do, you didn't experienced the ride so your judgement here is lame"
*getting out my mighty mallet from the hammerspace* let me explain further beofre cutting me off you jerk
ok I only saw the original ride via Martin's vid but yet you seem to forgot about one thing, the Dreamfinder of the ride kinda teached you that even nightmares can inspire us
oh dear american Disney fan don't you remember one part of the introduction?
Figment " h h how ae we gonna use lightning?" *scared*
Dreamfinder " hhmm We can combine it with ghostly shivers on a stormy night, And turn them into a tale of fright! muahahahahaha!"
that kinda doesn't sound like something pleasant but rather like something nightmarish
and oh the litterature theme too don't you remember?
"One chilling word
Like shriek or killer
Can spark the mind
To start a thriller
Add some more sparks
Like dagger, blood and gory
And then ...
A mystery story"
that theme wasn't "dreamy" it also had monsters, darkness, and danger, a little bit like a nightmare
but yet the Dreamfinder was there to tell you that not only pleasant thoughts and dreams could inspire you but also nightmares an doubts and he is true, want exemples "Steven king, Edgar Allan Poe, the fairytales (mostly Grimm), the horror movies,..."
RADF "ok, ok, ok so you've got a point"
ah finally so that's what bothered me a little in the original ride the Dreamfinder understood that dream and nightmare of both part of imagination a little bit like the yin and the yang, he knew that the one needed the other to exist and to inspire people so that's why I see him more like a philosopher, and to me that's what being a dreamfinder is about being the one that understand and teaches about the imgination and protects it but yet I forgot that the comics take place about a rather young and unexperienced kinda Dreamfinder verry different than the one we knew from the ride, and in the ride he seems to know nightmares a little bit more like anyone else like he experienced it, maybe that's what he will become since he is passing from one extreme to another (Dreamfinder/Doubtfinder) maybe he'll restore harmony between nightmare and dream and finally see the better of both of them then he'll teach it to the people of earth, hey maybe that's what the third Figment comic series would be about who knows
but remember is really the BOTTOM of nitpicking
so yeah over all it was really something to enjoy and I hope it can inspire a movie too
but please if it comes into film then please please PALEEEEEEAAAAAAASE don't just stick the science theme, go into art and litterature, and theater too ....yeah a little bit like the original rideXD
